WTB: Zealot and Skirt

This should come as no surprise to anyone who was at the Armada in June.

I need a racing boat and the old guys (DM and SW) seemed content, even if rusty, in their Zealots. I do not expect to have such a styling color as SW, but I am not afraid any colors, hideous or otherwise. If you have an extra one you care to part with, please email me.

I would need a skirt to go with it, so if you one of those as well, let me know. I am Anna Nicole Smith Size (before Trim Spa), boobs and all.

I live in Central Maryland, but intend to travel this summer, wearing out my welcome on various rivers and reintroducing myself to the local law enforcement.

I did not try out the Sith. WAY TOO SMALL for me. The Bigboy was the boat for me in the lunch spot hole. 8)

An alternative to the Zealot that you might want to consider, mainly because it would expand possibilities for securing a used race boat, is the Super Dynamic.

The Dynamic was Davey Hearn's design at the same time that Jon Lugbill and Adam Clawson designed the Zealot. Changes in slalom designs tend to be fairly conservative and people often mistake Zealots for Dynamics and vice versa when they see them. They have similar lines and volume. The early Zealots had too much rocker, which was corrected in the later versions. The early Dynamic was faulted for not having enough rocker and thus rocker was increased with the Super Dynamic. However, I can't comment on differences in how they paddle; although I own a Zealot, I have yet to paddle a Super Dynamic. Perhaps others who've compared the two can weigh in on similarities and differences.

Because Kaz at Millbrook Boats still lays up new Super Dynamics from time to time, I tend to see more of them around than I do Zealots. So if they handle as similarly as they look, you might want to expand your search.

John.... I suspect that only one Zealot exists with "too much rocker," the first one out of the mold, and I bought it from Adam Clawson. The second boat out of the mold was Jon Lugbill's, and when he found it a bit slow, he made two saw cuts, straightened the stern, and glassed the gaps. That boat also still exists; I have seen it. Adam Clawson gave me the impression that the mold was straightened right after Lugbill hacked his.

Adam explained this in a letter to me, saying that the speed difference was only about 3%. "So," he said, "If you don't mind being 3% slower than Jon Lugbill, this may be the boat for you!" :wink:

The Zealot is a good design for heavier, less serious paddlers. There are also a number of SuperGLides on the market that would please hackers like me.

Those who want to see the extra rocker on my Zealot can go to See Boats on the race boats category. The shot of me carrying the boat on my head shows the rocker best. But remember, no other Zealot comes that way.

Thanks EZ, that's exactly the change that I'm talking about. I'm not sure if the original Dynamic exists in a similarly small number, but apparently the Super-D is all that has been built for several years. It's interesting that Jon/Adam and Davey deviated slightly in opposite directions (more rocker vs. less rocker) and both wound up altering their boats to restore them to greater similarity again.
