New Shaggy Designs C1 proto

Post by the great gonzo »

Yesterday I got to take a few rides in the newest Shaggy C1 prototype (Thanks Gwyn and Martin!) at Babyface on the Ottawa.
The boat is a very early prototype, based on the hull of a production Shaggy Saint kayak, but with a completely new C1 specific deck with redistributed volume and cockpit.

The boat shows great promise, once on the hull, the boat bounces nicely, is really fast for such a short boat and carves incredibly well 8) 8) 8) . I am sure someone who, unlike me, can actually perform wave moves will be able to give more valuable comments, but I had a great time just carving around on the wave.

If anyone paddles the Ottawa this Summer, go to River Run and ask for Gwyn, you may be able to get to try it as well.

I paddled the Madawaska 6-16 6-17.
How much farther is the Ottawa + is it possible to ride with my limited skills.

Now Martin posting an update like that without pictures is sort of sinful! Help your bros out with some photos and such! :-)

I saw the prototype on Sunday and it looks pretty good. I didn't paddle it though. From my quick conversation with the Shaggy guys between surfs, here's what I remember:

just short of 6.5 ft in length
26inch width

As Martin said, the bottom half of the boat is a Shaggy Saint. The upper half is C1 purpose built.

For those that don't know the Ottawa, Babyface is a big, fast wave. Last weekend, it had a breaking foam pile, but nothing too large.

Sorry guys, no pictures yet, I didn't have a camera with me. I will try to remedy that on the long weekend when I will be paddling on the Ottawa again.

For pictures and stats of the Saint kayak, go to the Shaggy designs website: http://www.shaggydesigns.com/

And one thing I forgot to mention, that boat is light!! Even my sub 22 lbs Sith feels heavy compared to it.
