The look on the receptionists face when I told her that the package I had sent to my work address contained a neoprene rubber skirt was absolutely priceless ... as are the looks on my coworkersface when I tell them that 'I blew a ferry' and 'got spanked in a hole'...just does not sound the same to non-boaters... ...

Good question!
Good question! I'm not sure how CafePress (who the store is though) deals with it, but as they are a pretty big operation, I'm sure Martin's package wasn't the first they shipped to Canada:) .
I'd think with NAFTA you wouldn't get hurt TOO bad with purchasing personal goods from the US, but I don't know for sure. If I can find anything out for certain I'll post here for all to see.

Re: Good question!
I haven't ordered from CafePress, but the thing that can really hurt is brokerage fees. Fedex is probably the worst for this. I once ordered a helmet from the US and the duty was $5 (paid to Cdn Government), but Fedex took $45 for the brokerage fee. I my experience, US Post is the cheapest way to get things across the border. Very little difference in delivery time and MUCH cheaper brokerage. I've used Fedex, UPS, and DHL and USPS is the best.

Cross Border shipping
That was my experience too. The import tax normally is negligible, but the brokerage fees are horrific. My experience was with UPS, not FedEx, but fortunately, the name was wrongly spelt, the address wasn't quite right (though it got to me), etc. so I eventually told them to shove it (if the fee had been reasonable, I wouldn't've had a problem paying it). They said there would be repercussions in terms of future deliveries, but I just made sure not to ship anything with them for a while.
Ship USPS / CanadaPost if possible. Then there are normally no probs.
Enjoy!

I did not get dinged with any additional charges for the shipment from cafepress.
I really seeems that even if you get dinged with duty and/or tax, the good old mail is the best option. UPS, Fedex and such can have some really insane brokerage fees.
I have however still not quite figured out when duty and taxes are due and when not, it seems to be random.
