OC rodeo in September's world cup

Post by Eli »

Just wondered if anyone is planning to attend the rodeo world cup in September. This event hogs three weekends and leads up to GauleyFestival. The World Cup is a new event that is replacing the Pre-Worlds. It starts on the Ottawa River, September 1st to 3rd. The next weekend's comp is held on the Black River in NY. The following weekend is at Rock Island, TN.

I would be happy to help give pointers to any participants. Of course, I'll be watching the current champ Paul Danks for inspiration.

I know the kayakers are having team trials the last weekend in August. I don't believe it is required for us...but if we wanted to organize our own deal at the Charlotte slalom races, I believe we could arrange to make it valid.

At current, it doesn't appear that there will be an OC event in the world cup. I'd be in favor of having one, but I really don't know if we'd get the turnout, and it's expensive- $90 per event, or $200 for all three events, or if you're doing it as an additional class, it's $45 per event. (since I'm planning on doing all three events in K-1, C-1, and squirt, It would be hard for me to justify doing yet another class). The world cup website is http://www.wcfkc.com/ You might want to get in touch with Sharky via the site and see if they're planning on an OC class or if they'll do one...

As far as team trials, I'd be in favor of doing it at Garb during the other surface boat trials (since I'll be there anyway). Any idea how many OC (and/or C-1) slots there are on the team this year?

Team Trials and OC Nat's are on the same weekend. We have a baby on the way... the 27th. If we can hold it later in fall or at Rock Island or ?? I'm in again. Speaking with Marc & Paul.... BUS is HUGE.... oh well! :D

So what is the deal? Are the oc-1's going to be in the world cup or not???

I would at least go to the one in Rock Island.

I've been telling people all year it would make sense to have a rodeo while all the open boaters are in one place for the nationals. It seems like it would be natural to have the team trials there or the Ocoee or Rock Island around the same time.

Hey mate, Jez here from Australia and I plan to get on the World Cup tour this year for OC1 however notice that there is no section on the World Cup webpage to register. I have also emailed them twice and had no reply.
I hope that they are not trying to squeeze OC1 out of freestyle especially considering OC1's long history and since at the World's in Australia, quite a few stated that OC1 was one of the most entertaining competitions they had seen.
So we are in limbo right now. Any thoughts?

Hey guys, get online and register for the OC1 World Freestyle Cup. We had a bit of work getting it back on the program and if no one shows up it will be right back off the list. So register guys, we need a showing.

I've got a Spanishfly that anyone is welcome to borrow for the World Cup if they want to. I'm planning on doing the events, but not in OC-1 because 1. I'm not that great at OC-1, and 2. I'm doing K-1, C-1, and Squirt already, and the entry fees are already killing me.

Hey Buddy! You coming? Gary?.... anyways... where is the info? It's kinda' hectic for me right now so I can't commit to being anywhere right now. BUT... We (that means all you C-Boaters!) can't let them toss us aside. As long as we keep showing up they will accomidate us. As soon as we stop showing up POOF... it's over. And don't think C1's wont be next. :o

If I'm on the Team or not it doesn't really matter to me. I plan to be there to watch and hang out and more importantly paddle! So.. if folks want to come... not compete... do a rolling rodeo for fun and just hang out as a bunch of C-Boaters on the Ottawa... let's do that! Bring the video camera's and we can compile the footage and have Eli put it all together. That's the original spirit of Freestyle anyways.... havin' fun with your buds.

Come on and compete. Even if you can window shade in an OC1, you can get a world placing. There are three events to be involved in, Canada, NY, Rock Island. As Craig said, as soon as we don't show up for an event is the day OC1 gets taken off the list. So get involved guys and register for OC1.

The world cup website is http://www.wcfkc.com/index.php
The events are open, so you don't have to qualify for a team to do them. Let's hope that some more c-1 boaters also register, since there are currently on 5 signed up

The North Alabama Whitewater Festival, which I believe is the 2nd weekend in March will have an OC-1 class. Most events will accomodate us if we pre-register.
