C1 eskimo roll book

Would somebody recommend please a good reading source on rolling decked C1. There seem to be quite a few books handling the subject, but it is hard to tell which one is good from looking just at the covers. Thank you.

there are several good books out there, but my personal favorite is Paul Mason / Mark Scriver's "Thrill of the Paddle". The 'C1 Challenge' Kent Ford video, though a bit, er, dated, also has a lot of good tips and footage, if you can get by the fact that the Gyra max is THE hot playboat.

You may also want to track down a CBoater in Maine, NH, or Mass (depending on where you are), as most folks are happy to show someone else how to roll. It's great for knowing what you're doing incorrectly too (unless you have someone to videotape you it can be tough to figure out what you're doing wrong sometimes).

Kent Ford's video dated? No way - not if you are interested in doing "splatters, enders, and host of other shredding moves." Actually, that footage of him splatting the rock with the slalom boat wholly vertical is VERY cool.

Those were the days, back in the late 1980s, when "cforum" meant just a bunch of guys hanging out at hades Hole in slalom boats . . .

thanks alot for the help. Where in St. Paul are you? I work for the Minneapolis YMCA camp Menogyn in the summer, and I have a few days left. I swing in and out of the cities pretty regularly in the summer time. as a matter of fact, I am in Edina right now. If you haven't done it, there is a tiny little slide on the minnehaha right under the 50th street bridge, and I am not sure what the CFS are right now, but when I drove over it last night, it looked about as low as when I ran it. sorta interesting. cheers

According to our local club's website Minnehaha Creek is running at a roaring 87cfs. (I think my dishwasher produces more than that.) I usually don't get on the creek until it's doing better than 250cfs. It's a fun time when water is present.

Sure thing. Drop me a PM here when you get back. There should be water in May. We can hit the Kettle, St. Louis or possibly the Stoney if it still has water in May. The Stoney is a gas and is relatively close to Menogyn. Ever run the Stoney? If were lucky the Temperance might still be running.
