I'm going to be in the West Jefferson area, camping with friends and family this weekend. I'd love to get a little paddling in, but not sure what is there. I'd love to paddle something cass II - III at least one day while I'm there on an OC1.
If you have any recommendations, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
Jeff

Jeff,
There isn't much right there - north and south fork of the New- flat but decent fishing using a Rebel light brown-slightly olive crawdad lure- at least that works good in July/aug.
If you head down to Boone you can do the 321-guys ford section of the Wautauga, I've done this to 1.85' if you get rain you can take 58 west to whitetop laurel pretty, if you do the bottom 6 miles to Damascus it is class II-III except one portage. If you head East on 58 then you can go to Big Reedy Island Creek - all of these should be within an hour drive
