not to change the subject from my favorite past time, but does anyone in this thread paddle a sith as well? I was just looking at the pics from the Shaggy website and the boat looks really fun. I mean it looks like a slicey boat with speed. how well does it do in big water? and how does it surf? i read that it was loose, does that mean its hard to initiate the edges, or just very easy to not catch one? did i just write the same question in totally different words, yes. in otherwords, how much fin is it? and does it work for 200 lbs?

isaac,
I do own a Sith myself. It is great in big water, in fact it is still my favorite boat on the Ottawa.
It IS a slicey boat with a lot of speed. quick to ferry, turns easily, allows you to play in the flats as well (probably the easiest boat to do controlled flatwater cartwheels in I ever paddled).
It surfs extremely well on manty types of waves, from glassy green ones to steeper breaking ones. the edges allow for good carving on a wave. The large spin disc makes it loose (looseness means the boat breakes loose from the surface of the water when on plane, facilitating spinnng and such) and therefore very easy to spin on a wave. The symmetric shape makes front and back surfs equally easy and also makes cartwheels very predictable and controllable.
To answer how much fun it is, lets just say that, when I am not creeking then I am most of the time in my Sith. It definitely gets on average most river days of all my boats.
And yes, it's easily suitable for a 200lb paddler. I weigh ~190-195 lbs, and I went for a 1 cm cut (i.e. 1 cm [3/8"] were cut off the hull and deck before joining the halves), so a full volume boat would easily suit you.

Oktoberfest....
Hmmmm.....I attended that this year. Awesome time, albeit shorter than intended due to:
1. difficulty getting a space in a tent - no space = no beer
2. drinking 4 Maass (sp?) (once obtained) faster than appropriate
Still, a fun time, and for those who have met my wife Jo (yes all 45kg of her...) she was the better part through her third Maass when the time came to leave!)
Hmm.... beeeerr!
Prost z'samme!
