Injured C-1 paddler

Post by Randy Dodson »

Many of you may know Matt and Jennifer Fritz from Dallas. Matt sustained 2 fractures and 1 crack in the 6th vertabrae of his neck while landing a waterfall drop in Mexico.

I just spoke with him and he said there was no neurolgical damage and he should be good as new once this is all over with. Don't know how long that will take.

Please remember Matt in your thoughts and prayers.

Matt needs a favor: if you are coming from N.C. to anywhere near Arkansas or Texas, please PM me for details.

Ellen and I will keep y'all in our prayers, Matt and Jennifer. We are glad to hear the prognosis is as positive as it is. Please keep all of us up-to-date on the recovery and physical therapy.

Matt, I wish you the very best and would like to mention that I have been through what sounds like a similar experience. I fractured c5 and c6 and cracked c7. My neurologist, a friend of over 30 years in Veracruz, suggested that I do nothing but physical therapy. That was probably 15 years ago. I still exercise and am more careful than before :) The only really noticeable side effects are an enhanced, although somewhat annoying, ability to predict the weather. I was back in my c-1 in about 6 weeks. I'm sure you will do even better. Take good care of yourself, stick with the physical therapy and give me a yell when you come back to mexico, especially Veracruz, and hopefully we can get together, paddle and share war stories.
