Wavesport X

Anyone out there ever used an X as a C-1. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Would use a a river runner/ some play.

The X will work great for that. I'm still learning with my X, but it will do anything except the modern arial moves. It is not fast though and the bow does like to pearl when surfing.

The X is a good starter boat that you can grow with. I had one and got rid of it (for other boats) but I now have a line on an older X with broken hull (crack) and I'll out fit it as a C1 because its a run bigger water river runner. It is one of my favorite all around conversionss.
It can do some play but you have to squash it to get it to be a play boat in relation to todays plays boats. But it was the boat of its day and introduced lots of play to the river. If the price is right, based on the needs you stated, I say go for it because you will not regret it! Let us know how it goes! Paul C.

I will be using it mostly for running bigger water. I have a Big Wheel that I use for parknplay but its real squirrly when trying to get downriver. It seems as though the X would be a good choice with some play potential. My play isn't xtra freestyle anyway so I don't really need a over aggressive playboat. The Big Wheel is already that, for me anyway.

i think the wheelboy would be a better choice for an all-arounder.

i paddled an X for a couple years and it was just ok. i did have a blast on class III+ play runs (it's not great for play but a heck of a lot better than the atom i paddled before it). the problem was I was not very comfortable in difficult or big water. i had NO desire to do hard runs in that thing

the h3, for me, was a million times better for the harder runs.

IMO... of course it depends on you and your rivers, but since you've got a play boat, you should skip the middle of the road and just get a creeker.

What about sizing, i'm 6'2" 190 Lbs. am I too heavy. I was thinking I am too heavy for the Wheelboy. I also don't do much 'creeking' per say so i thought the X would be nice for class IV ish runs that have some play spots, or other runs with more wave play where a faster boat is good. Thoughts?

i'm ~6-1, 180 and feel just right for the wheelboy. i don't think another ten pounds would be a deal-breaker? maybe somebody else out there is your size and can chime in.

for me, the WB is more predictable and stable in rapids, and for play it just blows the X out of the water. yeah it's probably a little bit slower though.

but then there's the cost. you can probably get an x for close to nothing. if so, you might as well try it out. but if you have to pay 3 or 4 hundred, and then set it up.......i don't know. you know there's a wheelboy for $500 not far from you.
