And, while you're searching the forum - there are some really good general threads, and threads about peoples' specific challenges - while you're searching, keep repeating this to yourself:

"Keep your head down, keep your head down, . . . "

Get nose plugs, google might help too, and have fun!

Yea, I collect rolling footage, so how about sharing? Maybe post it on YouTube?

After learning to roll my slalom boat after being used to my OC roll, I've decided the really important segment is a fast hip snap, much more than in an open boat--where you roll the boat under you in a smoother, slower motion.

It may not be great video, but it 's what I got. We shot this in a pool a couple of summers ago and killed my digital camera with a faulty (or improperly sealed) waterproof enclosure :

found a good link

This link has good lighting and is from underwater, although I'd like to see the roll a little slower.

This is also a pretty good link, though you only see the roll from above, but it does show both onside and offside roll

roll advice

Post by jim gross »

The very best advice i give to people is. You are not trying to roll your boat up. A different mindset is . To use your hips to " PULL YOUR BOAT UNDERNEATH YOU" That,s it in a nut shell . It makes you concentrate on your hips, not your paddle. Not lifting your head . You can try plnting your fore head on the back of your hand . But when the large steaming pile of dog doo hits the fan . PULL YOUR BOAT UNDERNEATH YOU. syotr JIM

I like that Jim, gives a pretty good mental image.

The one that helped me learn was to bring my onside knee to my forehead, that helped give me the venetian blind type motion which is the same thing as "pull the boat underneath you" but Jim's explanation definitely conjurs a better picture.

Just click on the slider (red dot) and move it at the pace you prefer - forwards or backwards, makes it real easy to break it down.
