ORGT - film from the archives

I found this over on BT :

I guess ORGT has been on the cutting edge for a while - the first electric bilge pump I ever saw was in an ORGT boat, maybe in 1993? A boat came through Nantahala falls, swamped and kept on going when most folks would stop to dump. Instead, a few seconds later a jet of water started pulsing straight up and out the back, like a fire boat on the fourth of July...

Early Bilge Pumps

Post by dixie_boater »

Scott,

The ORGT video was a hoot. Brought back memories of paddling tandem in a Blue Hole OCA with a foam block. Those were some of the toughest ABS canoes ever made. We thought we were so cool paddling one of those boats :)

The first bilge pump I saw was on the Ocoee in 1985 or 86. This guy put together a heavy (by current standards) lead acid battery set-up with pump and called it the "EZ Bailer" system. He even had boat stickers made with his logo. It worked pretty well, but weighed several pounds. I still have an old print of the guy emptying his boat at Double Trouble. It was a novelty to us at the time. I don't think he was a Techie with ORGT. He tried to sell his pump system, but had few takers. So, after a while we quit seeing him or any boats with his system.

That's my bit of ww canoeing history for the day....

I paddled with him back in the day. He quit paddling after he swam thru the sluice at the bottom right of Pure Screeming H. on Lower G. Bad day
