Planning a trip in June and was wondering how safe my stuff is while we are away paddling.
Will we have to bring a lock box with us or do we need to worry about returning to an empty site?
Forest Service vs private?
Any help will be appreciated.

Last year at River Rats things were safe but
down the street at some free camping at an outfitter camping and boating items were stolen- e.g. paco pad, hammock.
We never had any trouble at RIver Rats.
At Forest Service camping there is absolutely no alcohol. So, if you don't drink it is cheaper there, but crowded.

Ditto....
Not had any problems at the River Rats. Beware of the Forest Service campgrounds....those rangers border on Nazis...they will come and if your cooler is outside the car, will open it, and check for alcohol, sometimes at 2am when you are sleeping!! I haven't heard if they are checking coolers in the vehicles at this time. Ranger Rick is like a bomb waiting to be ignited. Consider yourself warned!
One more thing....
I have heard of boaters getting their gear, tents etc ripped off at parkdale campground. Not trying to scare you, just be careful what you leave there.

you might call around...wildwater does camping if they have room. also ocoee adventure center can help you out; he's an ole paddln bud ... but be patience , rafts is the bizz with all of them, but they are private boat friendly. be aware that polk co. is a police state..dogs and searches. Oh, you may find some jerks on the water(sigh...) as well.
