itty bitty rodeo boat

Post by squeakyknee »

I know it's no new thing. people have been cutting down canoes for awhile.
I just pretty much finished taking a Whitesell Descender and cutting it down to 8ft 6inches. it has about 4 inches of rocker bow and stern and is about 28" wide at the gunnels.
I threw an old perception saddle in and am taking it out this afternoon to see how it paddles.
It's not the best looking thing in the world, but it's strictly for fun
( it's freakin UGLY!!)
I'll try and get some pics up of it 2morrow if I get a chance.
It looks a whole lot like a Mohawk Maxim...

Here's some pics, I'll try to get some action ones this weekend.
This sucker is super SQUIRRELLY, but alot of fun!
I bolted and glassed it back together and bought an 18 ft vinyl gunnel and chopped it down to fit.
Gonna add a pump this afternoon.
It needs footpegs too as I almost fell out a couple of times rolling it
NO initial stability and secondary puts the gunnels right at the water...

How did you figure out how small to make it? It would be easy (for large guy like me) to overload a boat that was too short. This is coo, and I have a crappy old boat........

Nice work! We need more short canoes. I'd recommend adding sidewall foam- in a boat that small, you want as much flotation as you can...

Incidentally, I want to college in Virginia... This trend seems to explain my predisposition for short canoes....
