Esquif Nitro Skid Plates

Post by awelch »

I just got an Esquif Nitro and I am interested in putting preemptive skid plates on it. It doesn't seem like Esquif makes any that are designed for this hull. Looking at the currently available kits it doesn't seem like they would cover the wear spots completely.

Has anyone done custom skid plates on one of these or found a kit that works well? I have asked a few people and they suggested not trying to cut kevlar to fit but using fiberglass instead. Another person suggested smearing it with JB Weld. I saw his and it was not very asthetically pleasing but seemed to do the job.

Thanks in advance for ay suggestions.

Kevlar's sticky (on rocks) and it's likely to grab a little more. I wouldnt bother, personally.

Use the boat, if it starts to wear on the chines, get some ABS goop (search the forum for instructions) and paint it on. It gives you great racing stripes! :-) Aint pretty, but it's extremely functional. I did it to my nitro a few years back and it was great.

Ahhh! I didn't know there was a search function. That will save some time in the future. Thanks![/quote]

From my experience owning one, you'll wear the chines down long before those big bulbous ends on the Nitro. I wouldn't bother putting skid pads on it.
