Day in Whitehorse?

Post by yarnellboat »

Any good day-trippin' rivers right in & around Whitehorse. I may have a day to spend there on Sun the 16th, hopefully I could find a boat if it's worth it.

There are supposed to be a few decent play spots on the Yukon river right in town. They hold an annual rodeo there. The upper Tatshenshini, Blanchard, or Jarvis rivers might be good options for you, among others. Up North Adventures in Whitehorse rents some whitewater boats. They had a Zephyr available when I passed through last month on my way to paddle the Tatshenshini/Alsek. Call them (867)667-7035 and talk to Kalin. He should be able to give you give you the local scoop. Beautiful, wild country with brown bears very abundant. Fall color should be just about prime too. Hope you get out.

Thanks for this reply and a different PM. Nice to know of some resources in town, and it looks like I'll get out for something mellow on my brief visit. Nice way to see a new town!
