I've got a deal pending on a cheap Y - GOOD IDEA - BAD IDEA?
I've just moved to an area where it is all steep creeking in the spring. Will need a creeker.
I'm 5'11" and about 190lb in gear, expert openboater, previously advanced, but now infrequent C-1er without a lot of steep experience
Other than a Cascade, my only creek C-1 was a Prijon Kaituna (great allrounder when I was lighter, fun in IV, spooky in V)
Current C-1 is a Wheelboy (finding I seem too heavy for anything but playboating in it)
Any feedback, reviews, and opinions will be greatly appreciated
Thanx

I paddled a friends "Y" here in Richmond (Ol' Geezer ) some years back and liked it. Thought it was comfy and stable as a c-1. I don't creak so I can't speak about it's creekin' performance, but it should do well enough. Since you've been boatin' in a Wheelboy, you should feel at home in the "Y". Enjoy!

"Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing-absolutely nothing-half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats."

Thanks for the input c1swim and KNeal
Can't see why it wouldn't work - nice symetrical shape, carries some width toward the ends, could always be a little wider. Regret that I've given up on Drakkar, Fink seems too big for the steep and tight . Actually don't see any "modern" designs that seem appealing.
Any first hand knowledge / owners out there? I have to commit soon as the boat is out of province but travelling by this weekend.

Y as C1
I paddled a Y for a year or two before I got a Fink. It makes a pretty good C1 for creekin.
For me, the boat work well on the irrigated boulder bashing type of runs, but not so well on bigger rivers. I found it very easy to roll and it tracks well. On the down side, I found the Y to be very slow.
I'm your height and weight and paddle mostly class IV, but will occasionaly jump on some of the harder stuff.
Hope this helps.

I own a Y - but it ain't pretty
I think it's a 99, I really can't recall ever seeing a more carved up hull, looks like he's been dragging it behind his truck
The guy brought it by (from considerable distance). I offered half of the $300can. he was asking , hoping he`d get it out of my site....... but he took it.
What the hades? - That equates to about $48 US right now.
Thanks for the advice guys. I`ll convert it in about a half hour with either a dagger or drakkar saddle that I`ve already got made up . Then I`ll paddle it like I stole it! If I like it as much as I think I will, I`ll look for a better one later.
