Quel horreur!!!!!
Ouch!!!!What are they doing! :o Is this a fake video or are they really paddling volunteerly there, smashing themselves onto the rocks?
These guys must ne either stupid going this near to the rock or /and they're crazy and rich - I couldn't afford destroying my boat/canoe just for fun......leaving aside that they must have spent the following weeks in hospital
it's gettin hot
I MAKE THE WATER BURN
purple orange flames
blaze where I put my paddle

That's the Tsunami Rangers - they are "extreme seakayakers", though that appears to be a "highlight" tape focusing on the crashes/burns.

Those guys have been bad A's for a long time. I remember reading about one of them paddling out to a floundering boat in gail force seas to deliver something or other then paddling back - the distance was HUGE in a glass boat, in the open ocean, in the dark! I am unworthy (smarter too - I think :o )!
Just seeing the waves crash speaks volumes! Whoa! Kool Video! 8)

I wonder if they ever sit around after a paddling session, saying, "hey, you know what would be really cool? If we invented shorter sea kayaks so we could actually enjoy the chop, instead of getting tossed around in it"... Hopefully they're not too far down the design process to realize that, well, it's already been done ;-)

Actually they're pretty crazy.. they try to score 'points' in sea-kayaking: here's how:

Sea Conditions Rating System (SCRS)

Factor Computation Method Maximum Points Score
1-Water Temperature 1 point for each degree below 72F 40 ____
2-Wind Speed 1 point per mph of wind speed 50+ ____
3-Wave Height 2 points per vertical wave foot 40+ ____
4-Swim Distance to Safety 1 point per 100 meters 20 ____
5-Breaking Waves 30 points if waves are breaking 30 ____
6-Rock Garden 20 points if paddling in rocks 20 ____
7-Sea Cave 20 points if entering sea caves 20 ____
8-Night 20 points if it is night 20 ____
9-Fog Up to 20 points if fog is dense 20 ____
10-Miscellaneous 10 points or more for other danger 10+ ____
TOTAL POINTS = ______
Divide total points by 20 to obtain CLASS LEVEL = ______

I met Eric Soares, arguably the modest founder and long time commandant of the Tsunami Rangers, at a sea kayak symposium in Savanah, Ga. in the mid 80's. He brought their homemade fleet boat, the X-13 Rocket. It was, as the name implies 13' long but only 19" wide and was a composite sit on top with a rudder. The thing weighed about 50#, was bullet shaped and was nearly indestuctible. The club, the Rangers, met weekly to make boats and plan outings which included night, storm and cave paddling. Before being invited to join the Rangers, a prospect went along on several "audition" paddles where their skills, bravery and allegiance to a group ethic was evaluated by members before an invitation to join was offered. It was a screening for a truly life or death adventure. The cave paddling was particularly interesting to me because incoming waves would rush into the narrowing sea caves and "top out", that is, the water would rise to the very top of the caves with the force of a breaking wave and all the air space at the top of the cave would be gone or closed out until the wave receded. Eric told me that while the group was viewed a s a bunch of crazies, they trained incessantly and scouted their cave paddles for months before ever attempting any. I tried the X-13 and thought it like paddling a greased log. And that was on flat water.
