European C-Boat Armada 2009 - Choose location
Dear friends
for the Armada to come next year, we (the organisation team) have three locations, and to choose one, and can't
decide what to take this time:
-Saalach, camp in Lofer (Austria, about 200 km from Munic)
-Salza area (camp maybe in WildalpenAustria, about 400 - 500 km (not sure about that) from Munic)
- Bavarian Classics :Camp in Garmisch (Bavaria, Germany) with runs on the rivers around there
please send me your favourite until 15th of september, via pm or e-mail: sabrina_wingedcanoe@web.de
(we had not had any of these areas yet, so this time, we have free choice among these three locations. Any other ideas can be told to be considered for 2010 or the following years)
the Armada will take place at the end of may, as it has been the case every year. Exact date will be announced!
Looking forward to hear from you and meet you next year
yours
Sabrina (insolence)

It would be nice to have an indication of a date, so I can reserve my hollidays and know in which period to keep the time free.
Appart from that, I learned last week that I manage to come down class II-III rivers in the Alps, so for me everything is fine as long as there are II-III area's around. I mainly want to start playing in III, and maybe even try some class IV stuff. We'll see how I got better by that time.
So I have no preference, haven't been in any of the area's.

date
hi funkidreadz - your vote for Saalach is noticed (It's my personal vote, too )
@jakke: I have to figure out the date with the organisators of another meeting (because there are many people who want to participate in both meetings), wich will take some time. I hope I can give exact number in about four weeks - or is this too late for you to do the planning?

hi
the other meeting is a two weeks canoe holiday in Spain, a friend of mine is planning from 9th until 24th may! Some others consider to come along - since they're all C-Boaters and armada "veterans", and many wanted to come to both meetings as I said, we had tried to find dates that take not place at the same time. But for technical reasons a coordniation was not possible.
Latest news about it: the Armada date remains the same: from 21th to 24th may
@ sandie: if your Zephyr doesn't work, I'm sure we will be able to organise another boat for you
also to others: if you cannot bring along a boat for some reasons, tell me! Some friends own several canoes and might be able to share them

armada in spain???
hm - to do the armada in spain......sounds great at the first glance , but actually I didn't think this to be a good idea
not for the location, but for the distance!!!!
most people come from middle europe-and if they don't want to or are not able to take a more than a weeks holiday for the armada, they won't drive to Spain (wich takes one hole day and another day driving back) for a stay of just four days.
A four day-long armada in Switzerland, Austria or Southern Germany (plus half a day before to drive there) will be possible to attend for almost everyone, even if you can't take much holidays from work or studies
but for a more than 1000 km drive oneway - it's not worth for just four days, so, if one doesn't have the time to stay long enough, he/she won't come at all
and that's why I thought a middle european location would be better (I personally would love to see Spain's rivers, but in may I have to attend university, and I'm afraid not being able to sneak off for a whole week or two........)
what do you think?
well, if now everyone wants the armada to take place in Spain, we'll have to consider (- but then I could possibly not attend it and only do the organisation that can be done in advance - the rest, such as coordination of the groups and daily runs, must be done by others)

Saalach sounds good for me.
Bavarian classics are fine too, but probably might be already too low late in May.
I've just been to the Salza myself this year. It's very beautiful there, but a long drive too.
Anyway, my vote: Saalach!

"A canoe trip?" he said. "There ain't nothing to go down there for."
"Because it's there," Lewis said.
