TOG
Two words: Ammo Box
(first boat was a 17' Quachita with big inner tube for floatation and spare life jacket for knee pads. Carried a come-along, just in case, and had a wooden shaft paddle with a plastic blade that was about 12 inches wide. Can I get a sticker?)

Er, how about...
First C-1 -- Bill McKnight Hahn, giant Norse paddle
(this boat once flew off Paul Flack's father's Mercedes, bounced around in the road & was none the worse for wear)
First cheat canyon run: tandem grumman, presiding trip leader was Andy Bridge's grandfather.
If you were finicky, your new C-boat came without rims; first chore was lay up proper rims & put on outside seams.
Sitting on the sidewalk cutting out neoprene & shock cord for spray skirts. Mandatory saving of all popscicle sticks for repair kit. Pig rings.
Cold weather paddling gear: Go to Goodwill thrift shop for old sweaters, cut them up & make leggings & arm warmers to go with Charlie Walbridge kits for wetsuits.
Getting nervous at Canadian customs in case they found epoxy repair kit with resin & hypodermic needles .
Ammo box --oh yeah, still have one. Used to carry boat repair kit.
Guess what -- we had more fun....

That's decent. But my meals on boating trips were shot and cooked by Walt Blackadar. We were talking about how good at boating the DDR was. And what "I Am the Walrus" meant. You kids are New School, with your skateboards, and your ammo boxes, and your music. I did a first descent with Ray Eaton. I believe it was nicknamed "The River of the Noon-day Sun."
Thank you,
Alden
