wavesport x vs. forplay

Post by Ronnie »

How dose the wavesport forplay compair to the wavesport x as a c-1 the wavesport websight said that they are the same as a kayak. I just wanted to know what would work for a 170 something pound person who wants to learn to cartweel but still have fun on the river too.
thanks

the foreplay will be easier to cartwheel, but slightly tougher in river running scenarios.. I had a midieval (same size as an X) and it was nearly impossible to cartwheel
Good luck

I agree with Tim, the forplay is a way way better playboat than the X. Due to the forplay`s length compared to the latest playboats, it makes an excellent river running playboat as well. Flatwater moves at 170 is going to be a bit of a workout, but possible.

I have not paddle a Foreplay but paddle an X. The X I have I use as my big water boat and is not something I can throw around with ease.
I'm 5'8" and 180lb and my X has been modified (smashed both in the bow and stern), taking a fair amount of volume out of it. Warren has had it out and he is 6'+ and (hopefully) heavier than I and he can he can throw it easier than I can. He's also half my age so I'm thinking its a youth thing too.
Anyway, the X plays well as a surfer but for cartwheels , particularly flat water, an such it would not be my boat of choice. For that I have a XXX (also smashed) and it cartwheels on demand (and sometime not on demand) and can run III+ rivers with ease. You just have to be paying attention with it since it is narrow and lacks volume - just another thought to add to the confusion. If your around SW PA your welcome to take my X out for a demo.
Good luck on your choice and let us know how it works out.

forplay

forplay will be good at your weight, i think the X will be too big. i have a forplay, i can cartwheel it at 150 lbs, so you should have no problem, plus it's fast as hades for catching waves or eddies. ive never paddled the X, but a friend used it as a c-1 creeker, and liked it for creeking.
