Weight range for conversions

Post by B-rad »

I haven't been able to find much info on this, but what I have found seems to suggest that for converting a c1 I would want to be either below or at the bottom of the weight range listed for the kayak. Is that true, and if so, why exactly? Speed? And would the same hold true for playboats and river runners alike? Any input would be appreciated.

Yeop, toward the bottom of the weight range is ideal. Reason- center of gravity and leverage. As most, not all, C1 ers sit quite a bit higher in the boats the leverage is much greater in a C1 and your center of gravity is higher. I would say you would notice this more for playboats as they are less volumess than creeker/river runners. As for speed, typically if you are at the bottom end of the weight range you may be in the large(er) version of that particular boat, which may be longer allowing for more hull speed- only using 1 blade usually causes a slower boat due to lesser strokes, so a longer boat will give more glide.
