Who wants a Blackfly
There seems to be some degree of interest in this boat. From the start, it was a project I did for my own satisfaction, but now I'm feeling more and more like it would be good for the sport to get it in production. I'm just trying to gauge the level of interest in the boat, and how serious people are, and trying to figure out my options for bringing it to the masses.

Cost depending I'd be willing to put money down on one... In composite (Plastic's days are numbered).

Let me see - Martin lends me a Prelude and I have 2 kids bugg'n me to take it out. The girl takes out Big Al's fly and want to learn in it. Small boat that they can use and I've thought was pretty cool along.... ... yep! I also think some K boaters would be interested in it.

Yeah, I'm debating whether I should take my "tried and tested" Jefe C1, or go all out and use my new-to me Prelude (which is getting picked up tomorrow).

I'm moving along with getting the Blackfly into production, and things are going pretty well so far. I'm working on getting the boat made in plastic first, with custom order composites to follow. At this point, it would be very useful to me to have a more firm idea on who/how many people want one, so I'm going to open things up for pre-ordering. If you really, actually, truly want one, send me an e-mail (Jeremy@ChasingRain.com) and I'll put your name on the list. I don't need a deposit or anything at this point- that'll come later, as the project moves along. If you might be interested in getting one, but aren't sure, send me an e-mail and I'll put on the mailing list for updates- just let me know why you're e-mailing me either way. At this point, I'm shooting for retail around $1300, fully outfitted. That is of course, subject to change, as I get things figured out a bit more, but gives you a ballpark. (more than a new kayak, less than a new Spanishfly) In addition, I might also sell just the hulls if people are interested in going that route. I'll hopefully get a website set up in the near future, but for right now priority #1 is getting the plug finished.

just a little update on this project. The plastic boats are all molded, some good, some ugly, none really "bad." I'm planning on starting on the composite boats around the first of the year. The outfitting for the boats is largely done. So now I'm working on looking for the people who said that they want one. The "good" plastic ones are $1349 (the foam and plastic ended up costing a bit more and I initially estimated), and I'm selling the "ugly" ones for $899- but there aren't many of those. I know it's the wrong time of year for selling canoes, but I figured I'd throw it out there. I'll be working on updating the website http://www.blackflycanoes.com/ over the next few weeks with more info, pictures, and video.
