Much Lighter Plastic Boats Coming Soon?
I just got some inside information that one or two plastic boat manufacturers are going to be launching significantly lighter plastic boats in the near future. The information I have is fuzzy but came from someone who is well connected. If true, I'll be holding out before buying a new kayak to convert. Ten less pounds would make a big difference !
Has anyone heard something similar??
SYOTR,

The difference is that both Twintex and Armetlite are glass reinforced while MFT (which is now called Tegris) http://www.milliken2.com/MFT/MFThtml.nsf/page/home.htm is a pure polypropylene matrix, made with 2 different types of interwoven PP yarn (different melting point and proberties) based on the graphs shown on the Tegris website its impact proberties seem to be significantly better than the ones for Twintex (which is continuous glass reinforced PP).
Abrasion resistance is not mentioned, but my guess is that it should be no worse than pure PP, which is used fior the Taureau.
It should, at least in theory, be batter than Twintex.
TGG!
