Was out creekin' yesterday in Maine. No muddy water but some ice was starting to form in the eddy at the put in. The season ain't over yet, but it won't be long before things freeze up

definitely prefer clear water, but when the local runs are muddy it means the levels crankin :D
Stuff that freaked me out was the Didymo (aka "rock snot") I saw on the Esopus in the Catskills this year. First thing going through my mind was "I'm paddling in used toilet paper :o ". Made sure I didn't flip. Some wierd stuff, looks like 3 squares floatin' along next to you, all brown and nasty. Went back 2 more times this year, still haven't swum. I think if we got Didymo in all the rivers, I'd be a better paddler
so glad for Krylon, ABS and acetone.Squirt, sail, paddle and pole.

Turbidity

Mixing water with anything heavier than water would raise it's specific gravity and make a boat more bouyant I would think.

For me, I worry more about the smell. Not that I don't paddle it, but I don't always come back...
