Somehopefully know what in talking about...but you can buy this powder (plastic) that you can heat up (with you heat gun) and melt it on wear you have a crack. I once used a piece of an older boat that i cut out too melt on. But the powder stuff works well, anyone know what it is called?

Just might work. Drilling the holes to stop the crack makes a lot of sense.

Paul, my boat is a Micro too. It has the crack right under the seat. People tell me this is the classic Micro crack.
The duct tape method is very interesting. hard to believe it actually works. Maybe I'll give that a shot.
Or . . . maybe I'll just get a new boat! This might be the perfect excuse for a new design.
Hey, maybe if I got a new boat I'll magically become a better boater!
Anybody ever paddle a Necky Blunt C-1?
Or have one for sale!?

Right on - classic Micro crack. I picked up mine already cracked - cost 1 case of good beer. I paddled Joey's and it felt really sweet plus Joey was making things look easy in it.
Did you crack it as a (forbid me for asking) K or as a C? I'm interested since I have my micro set as a C only and will paddle accordingly based on "crack-ability".
As for the "new boat = better boater" thought. It hasn't worked for me. And I've had repeated tries at it.
If your interest in welding your Micro let me know. You can bum mine if need be. It's small in size (can be mailed) and welding takes some time but seems to work well (I've only really slammed one boof to date - but the weld held). I have orange plastic sticks so if you want another color you'd have to order (roughly $8 with shipping).
I know the duct tape system works (Don't ask) - at least for the short term but I'd hate to have failure at a less than desirable time.
Let me know your plans. Good luck either way! Oh ad getting a new boat is A-OK!

BTW Alden - I have Adam's welder right now, but am done with it....might be heading that direction this weekend if the skiing looks good....
These also work a real charm - I've used this one to fix a crack from beating the dents out after pinning my boat on the ottawa, fix a cracked seam in an old club boat and to fill some drill holes in a newly purchased club C1
You should definitely give it a whirl
