I e-mailed them as well today, and here is the e-mail that I got back from Pierre Martineau, the president and designer of the company:
Hello
Kaqtus Concept Inc. is located around Montreal, Quebec, Canada
We are a brand new company founded by two experienced engineers who love
to design cutting edge designs.
The pictures you saw are of prototype one. It's made of kevlar and
weights 37 pounds, fully outfitted.
We are now working on the production mold and the final product will be
available by spring time. Final product will be identical to the
prototype, except for cosmetics and finish. Because of computer design
and the large paddling experience of the designer, the first prototype
turned out to be perfect and really hot. It was tried by a member of the
Canadian Whitewater Rodeo team and he said that it is the best open boat
he ever paddled.
It is forgiving enough for aggressive intermediate paddlers and advanced
paddlers who tried it really loved it. The capabilities of the boat are
limitless for somebody capable of using its full potential.
We will be finalizing costs after the mold is functional but we are
aiming at the existing open playboat market so cost will be competitive
to comparative products. We are also working on market development and
a business plan so we do not have yet the final marketing and sales
information.
The boats will be manufactured out of Kevlar and other advanced
composites. The prototype is a very light lay-up and withstands
surprisingly well to the abuse of boat testing.
We also have a 11 footer in the works and ideas for new radical
products.
Some local shops are really interested in the product but we want to
finalize our market study before deciding if we will sell direct or
through distributors.
We will keep your email address and keep you posted of all new
developments.
Keep visiting www.kaqtus.com for news and look us up at the local spring
paddling festivals.
Thanks you for your interest in our products
Regards,
Pierre Martineau

This sounds definitely interesting!
