Here is a new design I made for taking my wife and two (now three) labs out on the river. It's so stable you can stand up and walk around. I think a design like this would be good to get new folks into whitewater- a rec. canoe that drives like a whitewater design.
If nothing else it works for my needs very well. I call it the "Drifter". This is a photo of the proto.

Might need to go to 60 qt. coolers for seats, maybe put a buffet table in the middle for breaks. I've already got the R&D going on the retractable sun bonnet. The returned deck let me eliminate the thwarts which gets more important for occupants as the trip and the number of breaks progresses (dogs appreciate it too).
looks really good, another fine job. BTW - Larry was more than a little involved with Frankie designs, during the Savage to Pyranha days... and with incredible squirt C1's (think Millennium Falcon days)... sans gunwales, now that's cool.
That's a cool looking boat. Nice job, I think wood boats are by far the sweetest boats on the water.
At least you'd be watchin a pretty boat paddle circles around you Louie.

Not today the ice was so thick that the main line with the current was all that was open. No eddy's but the side ice was so thick that you could get out and stand on it.
It turned out OK considering I was moving pretty quick and cutting all the corners I could to see if the design was what I wanted. I like it and am starting another one thats gonna be purty. This one got a little heavy, gonna squeeze a few pounds out of the new one. Here's a better view of the hull during construction

That tipping part is what put me onto designing this canoe. It's stable to the extreme, still a "whitewater" design but on a grande scale. It's a real hoot to paddle, especially as old and worn out as my knees are. I do my Dick Wooten impersonation most of the time. Since I launched this sucker back in July of '08, the stand up craze has gained momentum. Who knew I was ahead of the trend.
The calmness comes from the boring flatwater. They like a little action.
My cousin Kyle made it as part of his graduation project from college. He and a group of folks just completed a Grand Canyon trip in old-school wooden boats including the Susie Too.
