I don't want to start a crusade against the Imster here... .
I remember my run on the Imster very well. It was my first natural class III, and I didn't know what was coming. I do remember wondering what the f*ck I was doing on that river, having water 1-2 m above my head all around me, holes of +1m down, ... . It only started to become fun after we were halfway, and then I had good fun!
Imster is not the easiest to think of security, and swims tend to be long and intensive. (all speaking at right water levels.) That's why I don't think Imster is a good plan to run as a starter with all Amrada participants in a 30+ group or something.
Yes it is a nice run, but leave it to the people if they want to run it or not. And when paddling all together, mostly doesn't offer an alternative. And you're absolutely right when we are there, we should go for an Imster run. Maybe everybody want's to run it, but at least we have an alternative. Just my idea.
And yes you should get out of your comfort zone to progress, maybe even facing your fears. But I like to do that in a small group, with people I know. I see the Armada as an opportunity to paddle new rivers, meet friends and have a nice paddle, not as an opportunity to push the limits on an unknown river and a less known group. Again, my idea.
But then again, I might be a bit too defensive.

if we should get 30 + folks there, we should NOT paddle in one group, I think
please don't get me wrong this part neither: The decision wether to run something or not, is always left to everyone him/herself!
this is the CBoat Armada, and it is free of obligations and rules
there is enough choice of other rivers not too far away
As you do, for me too I regard the Armada as a opportunity to meet or make friends - but it is a general fact that whitewater has to do with facing fear. As long as the safety spects are all ok, the fear is something one should not let dominate, right?
Also a big unknown group is not the best time to push limits, but in an medium sized group I think one can feel better, knowing there are some experienced strong paddlers to help when necessary. Especially in my beginning years, I felt always very comfortable at the Armada. I knew they are my friends, they would help me to learn the river and they would not laugh at me if I failed - like a family surrounding me
that's why I meant, the Armada can also be a place to learn from each other too
outside the Armada, there are exactly three people I would really trust enough for having in my team when doing my upper level or higher. The rest of trustworthy people are all "armada veterans"
but that's just my own opinion
NEW INFOS
we have a date: 13 - 16th may
I will look for a camp near Imst, I haven't asked yet but don't think we'll have problems there. James has found one that looks nice. And hey, they even have trees there!!!!
so far........

Thats great James, but we knew thatfunkidreadz wrote:Hi Mike, and everybody else,
EuroArmada dates are set for 13. til 16. May based in Imst, Tirol, Austria.
See you there and enjoy the winter
James
campsite address, that kind of thing? anything being organised or just show up? from memory imst is tiny, but nevertheless, i dont fancy driving from here to the tirol to not find the campsite
Campsite was last year very nice organised by sabrina. Though I did call in myself to reserve a spot.
What rivers are being paddled is discussed the evening before. Mostly there are several groups, so you can join the group you prefer.
So no stress: the date and location has been set, campsite will follow and all the rest will be discussed at location

Ok some more infos,
We intend to camp at Camping Imst West Sabrina is/will liaise with them to book us in, but if like Jakke you wanna book yourself in no drama.
There will be a fleet of Esquif demo canoes to try, if you have any special requests please let me know beforehand.
A full range of demo paddles from Kober&Moll and a few for sale at a special Armada price
I will make a group dinner for everybody one evening, so far i don't know what or when or how!
We do not really organise anything but knowing who is coming beforehand kinds helps sabrina to book a the campsite and me to organise a few other things.
I hope this is more helpful Mike, see you there

Hi Folks
since the ECBA is a single blader's event, we thought about kind of restriction on admission for our buttboating friends !
Every kayaker who wants to participate has to get his/her butt into an open canoe at least once! on the water, of course!
so everyone feels the bright side of the power
but before anyone get's afraid - it's just meant to be some fun for everyone, don't worry

Yeah it would just be interesting to know who's going and how many, that's all. Kelvin and me are going to Italy the week before, probably to Val Sesia, though there is the Noce not far away, and various other rivers in both Italy and Austria - it would be nice to know if there is going to be anyone else around or if we'll just be surrounded by kayakers
