CU Fly outfitting

Post by chris »

I hope a few of you paddle the CU Fly, its still a rarity in Ontario. I have noticed a potential weak spot in the design. There are plastic 'hinges' that are secured to the thwarts with a bolt, washer and a nut underneath. I have one that has completely popped out and another one about 1/2 cracked. The cracking takes place around the washer, where the plastic has been deliberately made thinner.
Anybody else have this happen?

If these hinges are the plastic attachment points on the boat for the thwarts to the boat, I would just back them up with some extra large washers, to prevent the bolts and existing washers from busting through. My old savage skeeter broke a thwart free as you describe, during an unguided trip down a nasty set (I had decided to ditch out and swim for it)
