The Karnali

Post by boathead »

Hi Bernie..........I have been considering converting a Burn, Everest or Karnali. I am 6'0 and 225 lbs and currently paddle a Spanish Fly, Quake, and a converted W/S Super EZ C1. I have paddled a converted Pyranha I3 large before but had to cut back the thigh hook mounting area of the inner cockpit for my larger thighs. Have you cut back/trimmed this area in your fish boat? Just wondering about the clearance factor. Usually on the Pyranha's, you can gain .75 to 1 inch on each side of the cockpit area by doing this. I am not certain that this would have to be done on the large Karnali and if it did require it , I could do it. I would be planning on paddling mostly high class II and III water with some occasional IV's thrown in. Could you inform me of your differing opinions on the Karnali, Everest and Burn? I am used to edges and planing hulls but am not certain if maybe a softer chined boat such as the Ev or Kar might be better for my weight range as a C1. I know the Burn is slightly wider than the other but edgier. What about depths particularly in the cockpit knee area? Does your conversion use a bulk head, I believe that is what you use. A LL rail and then a bulk head system. Could you email me some pics? Also, I know you are located in Dayton and I could drive down for pick-up on a weekend from Wi.,but I wonder if you ship boats, for an additional fee of course? Thanks for any input...My email is paddleoneblade@yahoo.com thanks again.Barry
