Dave:
The North Branch Armada is coming up soon. It's possible that the seller or someone else from his area might be heading there. It might also be possible that someone at the Armada would be driving north afterwards. Look for a 2-3 leg transportation possibility based on a hand-off at the Armada.
Five or six years ago, I bought a slalom C-1 on consignment with Davey Hearn and arranged for transportation of the boat from D.C. in just that manner. A paddler taking a C-boat clinic with Davey picked-up the boat from him in D.C. and brought it to the Armada the next day. At the Armada the boat was handed off to Natalie from Pittsburgh, who took it home with her. The following weekend she drove it to the Fiddlehead Slalom in northern VT, which my son and I were attending. Within a week and a half we had our boat and because none of those drivers had to go out of their way and were carrying other boats anyway, they all kindly refused offers of gas money and did it just for the good karma!!
I can't guarantee that it will work for you, but it's worth a shot.
