I paddled Bill's Impulse Thursday. It has an...uh...issue with the right gunnel near the bow (I'll defer to Bill for a description of the "issue"), but the hull is pristine. It has almost no signs of river use on the hull. The hull looks it was stored outside because of some mild fading. No soft spots. You'd want to move the pedestal (your spine is too far aft, maybe 12 inches aft of the center point). Blue Voyageur bags. Aqua colored boat. Nice boat.

Dagger Impulse

Post by billcanoes »

There are two chips out of the gunwhale, they're each about 2-3 inches long and maybe 3/8 to 1/2 in (longest /widest points of damage) Also the plastic for the bow cap is cracked.

I think the damage is cosmetic, and it certainly wouldn't keep me from paddling the boat.

The boat is faded, but it is not brittle. It does not look cosmetically like the best boat there is, but the lack of hull damage makes up for it. I have an Outrage X and a Bell Wildfire with 10-20x more damage and the Bell is 13 mos old and the Outrage is 7 months old. Either the previous owner didn't paddle it much, or they did a great job navigating and avoiding rocks.

I think this is the right link to photos (I don't have the Impulse posted there yet, but I'll add Photos Wednesday)

(my proxy at work denied me access, so I might have to update the link later)

Adding Outrage X- for sale

Post by billcanoes »

I am selling either my Outrage X or my Impulse. I don't care which.
The Outrage X was bought new less than a year ago and is fully outfitted with airbags, sadlle, padded thigh strap, knee pads and ankle blocks. The boat is well loved. No structural damage. No toe blocks. I outfitted and made all foam parts. This would be extremely comfortable for someone from 5'5"- 5'10". The ankle supports would probably need to be moved back for taller people.

Outrage X for sale

Post by billcanoes »

The outrage X is $850 fully outfitted. The thigh straps can br worn low at the knee or at the thigh depending on your preference. There is also lots of tie downs installed for camping.

I added a close up pic of the outfitting today.

X

Post by yarnellboat »

Bill et al,

There a post on the main board of a new 200lb paddler looking for a boat.

What are your thoughts on the weight/size of paddlers who chose a 13' Outrage X compared to a 12' Outrage?

Pat.

Hi Pat,

The Outrage or Outrage X would both work for a 200lber. I'm 190. and have paddled OC1s 9-13 feet. The difference largely is stability. Especially for someone who is just learning they will be more likely to flip. Holes are easier to get out of in the bigger boat.

The advantage of the Outrage over the Outrage X is the ability to surf smaller waves and turn a little easier.

Basically the decision is do you want more stability and a boat better for learning, or do you want to play more, and how often you plan to paddle. I'm guessing I padled 65 days last year, and I have not outgrown a big boat (I'll be keeping one) If you want to paddle 10-20 times a year I'd recommend the Outrage X.

Impulse is sold-

I might still be selling the outrage X or trade for Nitro Blast Detonator or Zoom

Spanish Fly for sale if and only if I can get an alternate playboat like an Aftershock.
