Pushing against the pegs, and having toes facing forward kills my ankles - and I notice many times that ur feet can come off the pegs from getting trashed.
With feet under the pegs, it takes pressure off ankles, and u dont come out until you want to come out - I don't know if this is the case with bulkhead, as I've only used doouble thigh straps thus far

I think I fall somewhere in between. I have my foot on the peg so the peg is just on the back part of the ball of my foot, but my toes are pointed back slightly- and I have ankle blocks to help hold my feet in position. I like being able to push on the pegs, but I don't like having my toes ground into the bottom of the boat.

I don't have my toes pointed forward. My toes are pointed downward. Using shoes with stiffer soles help.
The two set-ups are different in as with the double thigh straps I rely mainly on the downward force excerted on my thighs to hold me in.
In a bulkhead set-up I have to push myself really hard forward into the foam to stay in. There is a lot more forward pressure on that set-up on the footpegs. Having the feet under the pegs would not work for me whatsoever in that style of outfitting.
TGG!

I also have my feet more or less straight up and down.
I added an inch of foam to the back of my seat to help with boat trim and tighten everything up. Now I kind of wedged in and my back firmly pressed against the back of the seat. It was kind of an accident but it has taken ALOT of pressure off of my ankles. Now I only need to push forward when I roll . I haven't taken any Fullgnarlz beatings though.

With my bulkhead, my toes are under the pegs and I am pushing forward with the balls of my feet. To have my foot straight up and down is very uncomfortable and closes the angle of my knees enough to affect circulation. I can stay in there securely, especially when coupled with the Suzanne Somers technique, certainly enough to roll.

i wish i could press on the pegs because it definitely seems like the preferred method amongst the authorities but i just can't. i feel like the only way it would be possible is if i raised my seat way up.
the position rodeoclown mentioned - feet flat but the balls of your foot against the pegs is closest to what i use.
for me it's not a case of preferring one over the other for security, but more that it's either feet flat or i can't use my pegs.
sbroam, do your toes get pinched much?

Right now my footwear is a pair of Keens with a stiff sole and toe reinforcement. My feet are close to vertical, but the stiff sole keeps the pressure off my toes. I do not put my feet under the pegs - I push against them to get my knees deep in the bulkhead. With ankle blocks in the Maxim, I can go all day.

Nope. As others have, to create "toe clearance" I've run the tracks an inch or so higher in some boats. in others, I've cut part of the bottom of the peg off.john h wrote: sbroam, do your toes get pinched much?

The only time my toes were pinched was in a Slasher - I thought i'd try pegs in a c-1 (with factory bulkhead, no less). That experiment lasted exactly 1 day.
To respond to Phil - I haven't seen any peg related wear spots on the bottom of any of my boats, including a Pyranha SF - maybe I haven't worn thm thin enough yet.

Tell me if I have this correct:
OC-1: Feet are flexed, and push against foot-braces, keeping knees jammed into bulkhead/kneestraps. (Works in my Ocoee).
C-1: Feet are extended (flat), unable to push against foot-pegs, may be jammed under pegs instead.
TGG's concern about getting feet pinched between hull and pegs is worth noting.
In my decked boats, I've had some success with glueing simple blocks of foam to the hull, right at the end of my toes, when feet are extended. Feet can't slip back, (and knees slip out), cuz foam block prevents it, as long as feet are flat. When exiting, (and Q-R thigh straps are released,) simply flexing feet releases knee pressure on bulkhead/straps, and knees slip out. Nothing for toes to jam under.
Seems too simple. What am I missing. . . ?
