5.5. This is about as low as I can go and still be comfortable for a couple hrs in the boat. my slalom boat is 3.5, but I have to get out after about 30 minutes max. No worries Shep. We can get as many as 30 out of a composite mold but normally we are only trying to get a couple so we don't spend much time making sure the mold is perfect.
I use Rhino 3-d as my modeling software. Its a great software for boats. Fairly simple. Not terribly expensive. Several of the other designers use it as well.
If you want to get into it. I do think the first step is trying to shape a boat by hand first. It gives you a good idea of shapes and a more thorough understanding of what you are getting into.
