Like...what's the big thing with comparing yourself to others?
Guess in the USofA that makes me anti-social...

I use lots of Finesse. You gotta moisturize when you have as many dry-hair runs as I do.

Finesse is in the paddler, don't matter what they paddle.
Maybe kayakers look like they flail more because that extra paddle blade is always waving around in the air?
I see plenty kayakers with so much finess it's sickening though..
Charlie Center for one.

I think c-boating rewards finesse more as you've got disadvantages, er, I mean, extra challenges to overcome compared to our kayaking kin - the more powerful, but decidedly one sided stroke; perhaps a large hole on top; perhaps lots of water in your boat that entered via said hole; and a higher center of gravity regardless. So, maybe we notice it more in c-boaters, maybe that's because we *are* c-boaters.

I, for one, strive to be smooth just because it's something to aspire to and I like it when I see it. I ain't runnin' the gnar or going fast enough to pass anybody...

Finesse is something people have a feeling for or not. And I think finesse also comes partly with experience.
I do think you need more technique for paddling a c-boat in whitewater then a kayak. Simply because it's harder to compensate with power.
But good kayakers also do have finesse. You can see it on boat and paddle positioning (vertical shaft, also for kayakers!) use little waves, not only recognise the big river features. Get the timing right, ... .

But of course it all depends on the definition of finesse... .

i'm seldom about finesse.. the biggest reason is i'm about to fall over one way or the other ... or so it looks....... i like the don't care option on the poll...... if a paddler is going to be remebered by their finesse... it would probably be in slalom course... from some announcer rambling on and on about it.....

My foolishness has flown, my bravery has boogied, my strength has sagged, so all I've got left is finesse.
