Just got notice for both of these today.

The bid for the 2011 ACA Open Canoe Nationals & North American Championships – Golden Whitewater Park, Golden, Colorado, July 8-10, 2011.

The bid for the 2012 ACA Open Canoe Nationals & North American Championships – Nantahala Outdoor Center, Wesser, North Carolina, October 12-14, 2012

I am super excited about both events.

One side note about the event at NOC... the race will be through Nantahala Falls! That will be awesome.

Hardly recognizable from when I was last there in 1999. Before, it was designed almost entirely for slalom, with very continuous flow over the entire course. Now, it looks like there are more features for rodeo, with slackwater in between.

At the level shown in the video, it looks like relatively easy Class II. Is that the standard level that can be expected, or will it likely be higher at Nationals?

John, there are lots of variables snow pack, dust on snow pack, weather, etc. I can't seem to find a 1 year graph of the gauge?

That video looks like it was done in early May. I am guessing 275-350 CFS? Late may mid June is high water and it can go 700 - 1,000cfs? Early July, 400 to 600cfs would be a guess? This link might be more representative for that time of year:

Any other Colorado Boater opinions for flows in early July?

Sadly, I have to plan my calendar a good 6-8 months ahead of time.

I'll miss paddling with you all in Colorado (although I feel paddling with Canoe Yukon is a good alternative).

I look forward to joining you all on the water soon...

In '99 we had very good water. I would guess 6-700cfs. The Downriver portion was like 6 miles of fast continuous class 2+. A blast.

After looking at Cadsters link and entering some dates, it looks like 99 was a high-water year - musta been good snowpack. Looks like AJ is pretty close with 400-600 (although maybe more like 300-600).

Whatever the level is, it will be fun - and there will be plenty of other rivers to paddle!

I usually take summer vacation out of state during that time of the year - will have to move the family vacation to some other week and stick around CO. Can't wait to see what nationals is all about!

A closer look at the flow indicates about 500cfs. It seemed like more, but the river is pretty narrow through the course.
