Canoe Shops

Post by Mikey B »

Does anyone know of a canoe shop in west/central Pa or NY (or even Ontario) that has WW OC-1's to demo? I have a friend here in MI who drove down to NOC last weekend, but Mohawk wasn't there this year and not many OC's to see. Thanks,
Mike

It's a ways away, but Bushtukah in Ottawa rent WW OC1's I think (although that may only have been through Kalin) - I rented an Ocoee through them last summer (Thanks Kalin! - awesome trip!).

Zoar Outdoor in MA also have some demo boats - several Esquifs and some Daggers I think.

Mountainman in Old Forge had some WWOC1's last year, but only allow flatwater demos.

Whitewater Challengers, on the other hand, has a Prelude for demo (rent) I think - they have a pond on the property and I think they'd allow demoing on the local rivers.

Bay Creek in Rochester, NY used to have some OC1's - you'd want to ring first though.

Best bet is to hook up with other paddlers. I have a Detonator that you could borrow if you're around before the end of May. I'm in Ithaca, NY, but will be travelling from next Tuesday for the next 2.5 weeks.

Hope this helps

Mike,

Here in Ontario Ryan Moore of Human Heights has Esquif boats. He usually also has a few demo boats.

Evergreen in Toronto sells the Evergreen (Blue Hole) Sequel, don't know if they have demos though

They are also Mad River dealers, but again I don't know if they have demos.
Adventure guide in Waterloo is also a dealer for Mad River.
Algonquin Outfitters in Dwight/Ontario has OC1 for rent, don't know what models though.

If you are interested in trying out a Pyranha Prelude, you could try out mine if interessted.

Thanks Matt and Martin,
We have friends here who have an Outrage, Prodigy, Ovation, and I have a Shaman to test out...but he'd like something different from the rest of us. He really liked the Rival, and we've discussed the Viper 11 and Probe 11 as good possibilities...he's 5'-7" and about 140 lbs...the Prelude and Zoom look hot, but he feels he really isn't at the level to jump for those yet...interested in the Nitro and Detonator though.
Your offers to try out your boats sounds enticing...might just have to co-ordinate a weekend excursion sometime this Spring.

Probe 11

Mark,
How do you like your little Probe? How's it speed (we have a lot of flat stretches on the rivers we paddle)? Have you paddled a viper 11 or the prodigy for comparisons?
Thanks,
