North Branch Potomac paddle trip call
Since I volunteered to organize a trip to the NB Potomac, I am gonna go ahead and firm up that weekend.
On the weekend of April 24-25, I will meet anyone who will join me for a paddling trip down the Lower Yough, NB Potomac, and anything else that is running in the area (which may hopefully include seeing the Savage roaring with boatable water !). I will paddle Friday, April 23--usually it has been on the Lower Yough, but I can be open to other good ideas . On Saturday, we can have our traditional NB Potomac run with a pizza raid afterwards on the little town of Westernport . Sunday can be another day on the NB Potomac (maybe Kitzmiller?) unless somebody comes up with a better idea.
Camping has been along the Savage River near the dam and adjacent to the section used for the 1988 Slalom World Championships (where Jon Lugbill and Davey Hearn RULED !). Directions can be posted later for anyone who needs them.
Words of caution. Even though the NB Potomac, Lower Yough, and other rivers and creeks in the area are class 2-3/4, all safety precautions need to be observed at all times while on the river (stay with a buddy or the group, stay ahead of the sweep boater, wear appropriate protective equipment, have rescue throw rope readily accessible, dress with thermal layers and drytop/drysuit is HIGHLY recommended, etc.). Because this is a spring trip, you can get varying air temps. (warm days and FRIGID nights ) so bring appropriate warm, dry gear, and rain gear when off the river.
The only meal accounted for is the Saturday feast. This is when we park our boat-laden vehicles in every parking spot we can find, rush en-masse into the only pizza joint in the area and politely order all the zamboni's, caboosi's, calabassa's, pizzas, and sandwiches that they have in the store, and carefully watch all the employees to see who breaks down first and threatens to quit "right here and now!". All other meals are open choices.
I know a lot of you are looking forward to getting together in late May and I am not wanting to exclude you. I offered to organize a trip in the spring on NB Potomac and April 23-25 is the weekend I have available to do this. Please join me if you can make it. For those traveling up from the southern states, you are welcome to lay-over at our house while on the way up. Whoever wants to organize a May trip on the NB Potomac, please speak up. Bernie is willing to host a trip over in the New/Gauley area the weekend of May 22-23 so there is another choice for paddling.
Post here if you can join me.

Well...
I'll toss in a tentative "yes", though that's Big Water season up here .
If not I'll at least try and make the May trip. That would be a bit warmer too . It doesn't really warm up here until late June, and May is usually still cool, very buggy (Black Fly's are GREAT...they keep the tourists down . Thankfully they can't bite through neoprene...usually ), and the water is unpredictable.

Armadas...
Well, it seems a majority of folks want to have a May Armada on the North Branch...so, should we do 2, or have the May Armada be on the New, etc... (aka Bernie's trip)?

update
I'm bringing this post back up as a reminder for the April armada coming up in 2 weeks. Everything is still on for that weekend for me. I plan on coming up early Friday so I can paddle with whoever wants to join me and we will paddle whatever has decent water (or any water ). That can be on the Lower Yough, Cheat, or even the Savage River if it is running .
Let me know when you can join me for a weekend of paddling and fellowship.

Armada...
KNeal and folks.
I'll most likely be there on Sat. for the NBofP and then for the after paddle Strombolis!
The question is will J (not elvis)his lovely, and pete be there??
I'm game for any of the waters noted. Just post the location and the time of the meeting. I'll even try to bring along some butt boaters to add to the merryment!
I'm most likely not going to camp but that is subject to change.
Not sure on boats either. Most likely Viper, Micro and maybe the xxx.
On Sunday I plan on paddling Stoney Creek (2.5 hours North of NPofB) out side of Johnstown, PA. Along with at least one of the Shades. See http://www.benscreekcanoeclub.com/Creeks.htm for details.
What's a Stromboli? Other than Armada tradition....well...
