Canoe Length Poll

Post by cadster »

The rebirth thread connects the unpopularity spec boats to looks, see http://cboats.net/cforum/viewtopic.php? ... sc&start=0.

I never owned a spec boat do to their short length. For a boat to feel like a canoe it needs to be more than 9’ long, otherwise I choose to paddle a kayak or C-1.

For me, 9' is about the right length, it's not long enough to get in the way on tight runs, but with the right rocker profile it can be plenty fast and accelerate well. Same length is good for a C1 or K1 creekboat, or a C-Squirt.

My favourate canoe however is merely 6'7" but it's not particularly useful, just really, really, fun!

When the Ion arrives on the scene, my vote might slide down to 6' :)

The L'edge fills the need of the roughly 9' canoe market.

What we need next is a really sweet 10' canoe with some hull speed for river running.

I think the option is going to fill a big void in terms of speed, stability and respondability balance.... now this is all in theory purely based on how it looks...and how i think it will perform...which means its a total guess/hope.

When I think 10ft river runner, I think zeyphr, viper11, ocoee. The option looks like a mini zeyphr at first glance...

I think with these new designs out, after much R & D from everyone...a couple years down the line... designs r only going to get better... and that's the idea.

A PE Holmes would be real cool. I loved the way mine performed just not what it was made of.

but for an all around boat... I like the L'Edge better

Wait... what about the width of the canoe... isn't that more important???

I'd like to hear the ladies opinion on this matter... it's very confusing???

Wait... it's not the length of the canoe... it's how you use it right???

[scratching my head]

The greater than ">" symbol must have confused folks since the S'Fly is spec'ed at 8' yet only one person said that was in their favorite length.

That doesn't sound right to me- though that's what the specs say. I thought they were 8'9" (I cut 18" out of the middle of one and it ended up being 7'3"). Anyone got a tape measure handy?

I learned a lot from that, which was the intent. Having said that, I really wouldn't advise anyone to do it.
