What you paddlers using for White Water or Moving Water Canoeing Resources?

I welcome books, videos, websites, etc. suggestions that help us paddle better. I'm not looking for entertainment, nor guide books.

If you could also include why you value your recommended resource. For instance, I like this book because it focuses on this...

Thrill of the Paddle. It is tyhe bmost comprehensive book about WW canoeing that I am aware of.

It covers just about everything, apart from new school playboating in boats like a CU-Fly or Blackfly, that one needs to know about WW canoeing.

For an advanced paddler the lesson is probably on the river and the people you paddle with but for climbing the learning curve my favorite is "Thrill of the Paddle" by P. Mason & M. Scriver. Easy to read, just bite of what you need for the next step.

A very simple, well illustrated book that I recommend to novices is "Basic Canoeing" by Jon Rounds, Stackpole Books.

If you haven't seen it I know you would enjoy the "This is Canoeing" DVD. Dan has a copy so make him sit down and watch it while you're visiting next month.

James Weir has as a new book out that looks good. I have 2 copies coming. The canoe/kayak handbook from BCU is nice and the River Rescue from BCU is awesome

Thrill of the Paddle - Probably as close to encyclopedic for the sport of whitewater canoeing as it gets.

Path of the Paddle - A bit dated, but still very informative, and has some great information on strokes that aren't as readily taught, as well as an entirely different approach to river running.

Song of the Paddle - More for wilderness camping, it's still a great read.

Solo Playboating - This has some of the most applicable and easy to understand drills for improvement, and will make our forward stroke better. Comes with a DVD

Honestly, those are the only books I've read worth mentioning. I haven't read anywhere near all the books available on the sport, but some of the other books can really make it confusing, where in fact it's rather simple.

And I'm working on text and video material for the website. But I recon your problem. It's hard to find some good stuff on river/whitewater canoeing once you're past the beginner stage.

The canoe handbook: techniques for mastering the sport of canoeing By Slim Ray

Good description of paddle strokes and fundamentals such as eddying out, peeling out, ferrying, etc.

Also covers just about everything.
