I know this is more than a long shot, but I have paddled a L'edge in a pool and I am totally hooked. I am selling everything that is not tied down at my house, but with a second child due any day, I just don't think I can drop the money on a brand new one. I am still saving, but right now I think I can spend about $1,200 on a used boat and I would even be willing to throw in a medium Fluid Flirt to sweeten the deal. Let me know if you for some reason if you find yourself with a L'edge you can part with. I am in NC, but will travel to pick one up.
Thanks,
Shane

Have you checked out blackfly option?
I have not paddled either, so take this with a grain of salt, but Blackfly canoes just came out with the Option which might be closer to your budget. It looks like a nice stable river runner/creeker too.
Good luck with your search

If you want the open one I would just get Kaz to match Appomattox River Company's price of $1500 for the decked L'edge and do the conversion yourself later. I just picked up my open L'edge yesterday, and after seeing what Esquif does to them to make them open I would just do it myself if the price was a factor.

I really appreciate all of the responses! I have already been considering most of these options. I have been watching the Blackfly boats with great interest, but without the chance to paddle one it is difficult to commit, but they certainly do look sweet. I have also considered cutting down a decked L'edge, but having done wood gunwales on other boats before, I think the extra cost more than makes up for the time and effort it takes to do the job. I guess I will just have to keep my eyes open and keep on saving.
Thanks!
