Right near the coloured phasing tape on the electrical shelf should be
3M Splicing Tape- 600 v.
Industrially it is used to cover large diameter terminations and splices.
It is rubber in texture and is stored in a roll with a layer separation flim, otherwise it will "meld" (bond to itself).
It is stretchable which helps it adhere under tension and soon "melds" together with no unraveling ends and no glue.
I use it on my paddle successfully, on the plastic T grip and the carbon fibre shaft. Lasts very well. Probably same stuff a previous post mentioned but in a industrial version.
Taping paddle shaft - you, too?

Re: Splice tape
I've thought about trying this on carbon shafts-

Comes in different colors, may even make a decent touch-up for vinyl skin boats

The plastidip that you actually "DIP" things into and the stuff in the spray can are two different things in my opinion. Only tried it on a metal surface...but it came right off. In fact, i was able to peel it off in basically one big piece.
Even if you prepped the shaft with sandpaper and cleaned it with acetone I bet it would rub off after a few strokes. (Keep your mind on paddles here folks...I'll not be responsible for any trips to the E.R.)

I used the "dip" type of Plasti-Dip on the shaft before. It didn't last that long but it didn't instantly deteriorate either. I brushed on at least 5 thin layers, and if I did it again, I'd do ten layers. Probably build up 0.06"-0.08" thickness.
At any rate, I just ordered some of the recommended tape, so I'll try that first.
