Premiere can edit virtually any file format - and if it can't, there are extensions.

Adobe also has a 'Media Encoder' that came with my master collection - that can convert mpeg4s to what you would need to edit in movie maker.... .avi? i think.

You should really look into getting something else - I will aid if you'd like. Can get something through bit torrent, have it downloaded and installed rather quickly.

what are the specs on your machine?

Thanks Tommy, I've got a Toshiba Satellite A215, with AMD Turion 64x2 TL-60 2G processor, 1918mb RAM, 32 bit OS. Not a powerful comp by any means...

you want an editor that natively supports the formats you use or you get translation degradation.

I got a Contour for Christmas and I have to say that my first effort was a little underwhelming. The camera work would make the heartiest sailor seasick. The camera is mounted to the top of my helmet and it would seem that I move my head a ton as I paddle. Do you other helmet cam users specifically work to isolate the movement of your head as you paddle? What can I do to get a better shot?
Thanks,

Shane

I think boat mounted footage looks much better...

shane the contour has a bit of a narrower field of view than a gopro this makes it seem to move/shake a bit more than the average gopro. Thus the contour is better for getting in closer to the subject shot but you'll need to learn to look with your eyes more vs moving your head. Also try thinking about slower pans when you want to look left or right. You'll want to place a few moves to play to the camera. After all you are shooting just not wearing a camera. For certain shots I modify my forward paddle placement so my forearm and tee grip hand don't get so much in the way of the camera. reaching draw stroke get in the way and knock my camera. I wish I placed it back further center-ish on my helmet.

Sony Vegas is a reasonable choice for people who want more than movie maker but don't need all the (sometimes confusing) bells and whistles of Premier Pro, and with less bells and whistles It'll run faster too...
