gunnels holes in wrong place

Post by henryflipinger »

screwed up and drilled right side lash holes about 2" forward of the left side. so i decided to drill some other ones so the lashing would be straight, had i done it in the stern i would not have worried about. how does this look? the second rope is a dummy string filling the holes drill by the dummy. i could drill some more holes on the other side to match the screw up ones. i have taken forever getting this thing outfitted just so i can go throw it around on the rocks this weekend.

I wouldn't worry about it.

I have spent too much time in the past obsessing over such things and in hindsight, once you get some river time on it and bang it around a bit you won't care one bit. It looks like a good job and is not going to be seen unless someone is looking really close.

As long as it floats, right. Don't stress the little things.

No drinking or mind altering susbstances while working on outfitting!

It must bother you or you wouldn't have posted this. Why not add the same holes on the other side and make it symetrical?

Why not tie a knot in the hole instead of looping cord from one hole to the other or leave the holes empty.

You can fill unused holes with thickened G-flex epoxy. Eric Nyre says that, over a number of years, exposure of the foam to water causes it to lose its elasticity. But you'll probably batter the boat to death before then.

If you hadn't called yourself out, I bet nobody would have noticed! As long as it will hold the bags in, you're good to go.

My boat's got a HUGE hole in the top.
Still floats OK when it's right-side up.

Happy paddling.

My bag cage lines are crooked. Never had anyone (but me) point it out. Who knows...you might start a trend....

if you look close enough, everything in canoes and kayaks is crooked.
