I'll do some stopwatch work this week to get some real comparison numbers.

Re: It's a sickness...
Man, I'm getting too old for this sort of testing.
Four runs in each boat, each run on a flatwater circuit taking about 50 seconds.
The Makao weighs 22 lbs, the "CSX" 26 lbs.
Sequence:
1. Two in the CSX, with a 1 minute rest between runs.
2. Switch into my Galasport Makao. Two runs with a minute's rest in between.
3. 5 minute rest and hydration...
4. Two runs in the Makao.
5. Switch back into the CSX, do two runs.
Result.
Makao times varied from 48 to 50 seconds.
CSX times: 46.5-48 seconds.
My best time was actually my last run.
Maybe it's me, but the last 15 seconds of each run in the Makao felt like I was pushing through molasses. I couldn't plane the boat any more. A stronger paddler might not have that problem. I hesitate to do shorter courses because it's harder to accurately self-time them.

Re: It's a sickness...
If anyone is interested in trying the boat out, I'll be at the NOC practice gates 8/16 and 8/17. I might stick around Saturday too, if there's interest.

This is great, Bob. Thanks for all the updates. I'm sorry I'll miss this opportunity. Will someone video the gate runs and post it?

Re: It's a sickness...
I'd like to try it here up north. I could be tempted to go down to Tarifville when you're back.

Re: It's a sickness...
I'm back from my trip down south. (I'll post some NOC video when I finish editing.) I can get to T'Ville next weekend if you're interested. Water's very low though. Otherwise, I'm going to start making a quickie mold to make the final (pretty) plug. The final design will be a little flatter and narrower in the stern. Still, the current stern volume is fine for me (160 lbs) to pivot. Very stable.

Kelly,
Please post a meeting time on the forum before 11am if you're going to T'Ville. Otherwise, I'm not going.

Re: It's a sickness...
I'm glad you didn't go. I was so busy, work deadline, that I haven't checked cboats in a few days.
So Labor day weekend what is you availability? Same time frame? If you send me a PM I'll get an email notice.

Progress on the deck. Almost finished!
Fortunately, the hull doesn't need nearly this much work (or filler).

Re: It's a sickness...
Looking good Bob! What's the width ending up at? Looks fairly narrow still?
Re: It's a sickness...
The pictures don't show the true width. The bow is not that narrow (almost identical to the Loco), and the stern is fairly wide. The bow shape is much flatter than most newer boats too. I'm 160 lbs. (+ sometimes) and the previous boat (from which this was derived) was narrower in the bow, and it stayed on top of the water incredibly well.
Maximum width is regulation: 65cm.
