Really #%@*&#%@ pissed right now!

Post by leclercraven »

Really #%@*&#%@ pissed right now! Pardon my french!!

I've had my eye on a nice little creeker at my local store for some time now (since March actually). I am looking for something smaller and sportier than my Raven to do some creeking and mostly "Park & Play" with my kayaking buddy. The Raven is an exceptional boat for river running but a bit big to surf some of the holes and waves that my yak buddy does. In March, I was given a price of $1,200 for the "boat". Great! finally an OC1 at the same price range of a kayak! Unfortunately I wasn't able to purchase it at that time. Since then it has been on the rental fleet. This week I learned that they are having a sale right now, $200 off any new creeking kayaks. So I went down to the store this morning, cash at hand and ready to buy the darn thing. I figure that I can get the boat at a reasonably reduced price because of the sale right? Wrong. Now all of a sudden, the boat is worth well over $1,500 and the owner is willing to let it go for $1,250 firm, no bargaining period!! I can buy a brand new creeking yak, at around $800 - $900 because of the sale but not a creeking canoe? Now, don't get me wrong, $1,250 isn't a ridiculous price for the boat, and I can afford that...but it's the principle of it all!!!! We went from $1,200 brand spankin' new in March to $1,250 firm now for a rental, (mind you it hasn't been used much and is in very good condition), but never the less... it's a #%@*&#%@ demo!! And on top of that, my offer was very reasonable, and very close to the asking price...but no bargaining? What the...??? In all, I must say that it's (the store) still a great place to purchase whitewater stuff and the staff is super friendly and very knowledgeable...but again, for the second time in less than a year, for the same reason, I'm going to have to buy my boat elsewhere!! Very disappointed!

Ok, now I feel better!

Oh what the heck! I know someone who is selling his C1 right now. I think I'll try that, it's probably better for the type of stuff I want to do anyways!!

Cheers,

Sorry about your deal. You should get a playboat for park and play anyway. Maybe it's a hidden blessing.

That's exactly what I'm thinking right now. I'm picking up a C1 playboat tonight after work and I'll give it a try on my local river. First time in a C1, hope I like it!

Oh boy, it's a Liquid Logic...eh, V65 or something like that. Liquid Logic Vision 65? It's been on sale for several months. I've only seen pictures of it. It's an older boat, 1996 I think, but from what I remember from my web searches is that it a good river running and play boat. The guy is selling it, with paddle and squirt for $300. I think the price is right for a first C1 playboat. What do you think?

Let me confirm, it's a Liquidlogic v56 converted as a C1.

Maybe you were too obvious in how much you wanted it.

Don't sweat it, something else always comes along

I finally bought a used Liquidlogic v56 C1 last night. Wow, very different than a OC1! Different, but fun! Tried it last night for a few hours. Man, you can even play in smaller river features and still have fun! I had lots of flips but was able to roll the boat every single time, upstream, downstream, strong currents, waves, didn't matter! Look ma, I've got a combat roll! :D My roll in my OC1 is 50/50. I think that the fact that I'm really tight in my C1 makes all the difference. Maybe a lap belt in my OC1 would be the way to go.

Anyways, I need to figure out how to properly paddle this small thing. One question I have for all the C1 playboat experts out there is how to properly ferry or get on a wave on your off-side? I mean, what kind of strokes must I do? On my on-side, it's pretty easy, all I have to do is basically use the abeam stroke...but on my off-side I use small J strokes but that doesn't work very well. Maybe a reverse abeam or cross-abeam??

And one last thing, my right shin pad is starting to peel off, what type of glue must I use to stick that thing back to the hull?

If you really want something to stick to plastic:

http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/e ... 9FHFZ0R1bl

Downside: It's about $30 a tub and requires the use of a $70 applicator

For outfitting a kayak/C1 the Weldwood contact cement in the red can works fine and is not expensive. Rough up the plastic first. I've had outfitting last 10+ years using that stuff.
