Thanks for all the replies. I paddled one of Scott's boats over the weekend (the Ovulation ) and checked out the outfitting..not just the footpegs.
There are a few things that I definitely need to change...have Mike Yee outfitting, but the anchors are not far enough back for me. Also need to lower the saddle a bit (back to about 7 1/2" and reinforce the back a little so I am held in more securely. Will throw some ankle support in there too. Maybe that will be enough.
Another question...my knees are all the way out to the sides, and when the water gets a little squirrely, I like my feet all the way out too. Not conducive to Yakima braces or foot pegs. Anybody else paddle with their feet all the way out, or am I just a freak?

I'm with philcanoe on this one, I can get much more power out of a stroke with my feet up and on the pegs. I'll kick them to the side when just cruising but put them back on the pegs for any kind of rapid. My boats are outfitted with bulkhead and pegs (no straps) but I also used this method when I used the Team Edge double straps.

Speaking of knees I am working on a prototype
I contacted the great foks at: www.skwoosh.com
They make light weight gel pad seats for canoes and kayaks, so I asked them to split one for knee pads. The result: we have come up with a prototype that can be glued or secured with a tether to a grommet. There gel is lighter than YakPads so I think it will not fall out while transporting boats upside down. The weight of my knees keeps them from slipping, so I have not glued them down yet.
I really appreciate their ability their ability to make a new product so fast and our midlife knees will be better for it. They said the price would be $20-25, so comparable to minicell preshaped ones like Northwater.
