For the past 6 years I've used various cameras and will stay using a diving case. The Optio and Olympys WP series are great for quick pocket shots, but for general use I prefer a Canon 710IS (now 720IS) with diving case.
The 6x zoom lets me get shots I'd otherwise never get close enough for.
The optical image stabilizer keeps the jiggies at bay
The diving case keeps the camera instantly accessible, no fumbling with a dry box hoping I have the camera in time for the shot.
AA batteries!
As for comments about water droplets on the diving case lens, a lens cap solves that beautifully. I made one from foam that's just tethered to the case. Some photos can be found on my P-Net page (paddling.net) http://www.canoecolorado.com/PNet
But for a small waterproof camera that fits in the PFD, the Optio or the Olympus work well. Saw the latest Olympus for $290 at Target a few weeks back. Marek uses the Optio for most of his shots, his site being http://www.fit2paddle.com (ya it's kayaking, but half the site is paddling photography tips).
