How would you compare it to the Maxim just in your trials. Is it more stable/faster/snappier/etc?

Cheeks it is all three from what I have been in it. I am trying not to be too biased on this it is my baby after all. But compared to the Maxim it is faster, more stable, and catches eddies easier. It also seems to surf and play a little better than the Maxim. But remember I am biased on this boat. I will not say I designed it I took a boat I love (Maxim) and have tried to fix some of the things that people did not like. I am not a designer I am a reconfigure r. I hope that this boat does well with the masses. Thanks for all the support it has been a labor of love. Throw in the fact that the boat will be produced using a new process (for canoes anyway) is just icing on the cake. It has been a long time sense Mohawk has produced a new design and it is an honor for me to be the one that does it.

Blowmolded... if I'm not mistaken, Eskimo and Prijon are both blow molded and are known in the buttboat world as having the most excellent plastic. I used to paddle Eskimos and Prijon and just loved the durabilty they had. I absolutely pig-nosed-smashed an Eskimo Salto twice and both times a little heat cured the horrible new nose job. Many thanks to you for pushing the envelope with the material while having the integrity to acknowledge your actual role in the overall design. You've seemed to have fixed the issues I had with the Maxim, what a great couple years we've had as a Cboating community!

Phrends of the Phein ?
A Maxim never did make out to the "Wet Coast" (at least in my circle) so it is outside of my reference.
Viper 11's are well liked locally. It is a bit of a stretch this soon but since I have been driving a V11 , for years what would I like in a Phien? I know, apples to oranges.
I'll always own a V11 for speed and carve, and I deal with the wet. If I owned both, what differences do think I would enjoy?

I was tempted to ask exactly the same thing. The Viper 11, Viper 12, and Ocoee are among my favorite open boats and I have never paddled a Maxim. Obviously, it is considerably smaller but would the Pheind in any compare to a hypothetical shorter Viper 11 made out of polyethylene?

Shorter, drier, just as fast...oh man, that might be the perfect boat.

regardless, im super psyched to check one out. this could be another big year for open boating

I tried the prototype out today on the Tellico. I was quite impressed with the boat. It was very stable and noticeably faster than the Maxim. Congratulations Richard.

Cheeks it is not shorter Maxim is 8' 9" the Phiend will be 9'3

I was actually talking about it being shorter than a Viper 11. I love my Viper, but there are some micro eddies where I wish it was a tad shorter

OHH i see after I replied I caught on (remember I aint too bright) and the Phiend will catch them
