It was Nasty
by Dave Stanley Dave Stanley

After a 2.2 run at the Upper Yough Sat I did the Cheat at 4.5 on Sunday. I was hanging back of 3 dark siders and thought I was in good shape at Big Nasty. Obviously I wasn't as 1 kayaker "knew" 15 seconds before that I was going into the hole. When I realized I was going to get spanked I set up on my left side and faced the music. Felt that I was upright on a brace for 5-10 seconds ( who knows) before, on my 2nd roll, I was ripped out of my Z. It was a big water day on the Cheat and I ran the wuuzey left side at Cyclotron. It was a warm water day and I felt a more challenging day than the Gauley would have been. Lessons to be learned were keep the pedal to the metal, i.e. paddle with conviction and avoid the impasse; a mantra from a dead hotshot female kayaker from the 80's. Died of cancer. Also, the small boats don't hold a line like my Cuda or Descender which I had used a couple of times at 6 feet. Sorry for the poor showing, I was in the C boat hall of shame for the day.

Yep, I know how you feel Dave, having been munched on by Big Nasty himself during the last Cheat Fest with the water level at 5 feet. I agree with you that this level on the Cheat can rival a run on the upper Gauley. But my question for you is, "did you get it on video?" I also took the the very respectable sneak at Cyclotron.
